Merry Christmas

It's been awhile since I made a post.  Life has been good for my family and I.  Thanksgiving time has come and gone, and now Christmas is just one short week away.  Where has the time gone?  While I've been away from my Blog I've been taking pictures like crazy of my little ones, and working on my scrapbook pages for 2012.  I have posted a couple of these pages here for you enjoyment.

The day before Thanksgiving the kids had a "Thanksgiving Parade" at daycare.  Jean's class was the "band" in the parade they were all dressed up like animals (Jean was a Lion *roar*).  Charlie's class took the theme of Charlie Brown and were all Snoopy dogs.  They even turned on of the cribs into a dog house!  It was adorable.

Using Thankful from Adorable Pixels

The kids also met Santa Claus early in December.  While Jean wasn't too sure of the jolly old man last year she was so excited this year to sit on his lap.  Charlie wasn't really sure about Santa, but we were still able to get him on Santa's lap for a picture or two.

Using Holiday Sweetness from Twin Mom Scraps

The next couple of weeks promise to be busy weeks, with Christmas parties to go to, gifts left to buy and gifts left to wrap.  I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Merry Christmas and God Bless

Pick of the Patch

October is nearly halfway over with, where has the time gone?  Like most weekends my family had a lot going on.  First off it was the weekend Bill and I had planned to go out for our joint birthday dinner, we also had some house cleaning to do, a toilet to install, dinners to cook, and last but not least pumpkins to pick.

Saturday morning the family loaded into the family-mobile and headed up towards Romeo to pick that very special Halloween pumpkin (or two).  While the rain was not falling when we left the house that wasn't the case by the time we arrive at our destination.  Plan A was to actually go out in a pumpkin patch to pick our Halloween pumpkins, Plan B (and what we ultimately did) was to find somewhere that had pumpkins inside.  Luckily we found a nice little produce stand that had a greenhouse complete with pumpkins, gourds, and bails of hay.  Another positive to going out to get pumpkins on a cold rainy day was there weren't many other people out, so we basically had the place to ourselves.

This was Charlie's first year looking for his very own pumpkin, last year he was just too little to go out. He was all smiles as he walked around the giant pumpkins that were bigger than him.  Jean found some pint sized pumpkins that she thought were neat, we took 3 of those home with us.  At the end of the outing we had picked our perfect pumpkins, and now we are looking forward to carving them.

Here is a scrapbook page layout I created for our pumpkin outing.  I used Twin Mom Scraps "Hooty Owl" Page Kit and Armina Designs Double Page Set 15 as my template.  There was a woman at the greenhouse who was sweet enough to ask if we wanted a family picture, I was so happy to see how well the family photo turned out, (even if Jean wasn't looking).  I think it was the perfect photo!

The next few weeks look to be pretty busy ones for my family.  Next week I go to D.C. for a few days for meetings, then the following week I'm in PA for a couple of days, and finally I round out the end of the month going to Kalkaska for a few days.  In between trips for work I get to go on a girls only weekend with my mom and sister, then there is a Halloween Parade in Williamston, we need to find time to carve our pumpkins and of course there is Halloween!!  I can't believe we can fit so much into only a two and a half week time span.  Lucky for my my husband is wonderful with the kids when I'm away, and we have everything scheduled out on the calendar.

Until Next Time....

Fall is in the Air

Well here in Michigan the weather is getting cooler, and the leaves are changing colors, these are all signs of Fall.  It won't be too long now until the trees are bare and the snow is covered in a nice blanket of that white fluffy stuff (yes I'm going to say it snow).  For now I'm okay with the cooler temperatures, maybe not so okay with the thoughts of snow and freezing weather, but there is still another month or so before that comes.

No new photos of the kid-o's again this week, but there will be some real soon, I promise.  Next weekend the plan is to go pumpkin picking, (huge photo op.) and then after that it will be the Halloween parade and trick or treating in Williamston with my sister and her family, then pumpkin carving and finally the big event HALLOWEEN!  So more photos to come very soon!!!!

October is a great month, to me it's the start of some real good fall comfort cooking.  With the hot summer weather it's hard for me to want to turn the oven on, but now the thought of warming the house up with the oven and the smells of something good cooking makes me smile.  Tonight's dinner is makes me want it to be Fall all year round.  For my family I made some great Sausage Stuffed Squash!  It was yummy!!!!  The house still has a faint smell of sausage, squash and baking apples wafting through it.  Once again this is not only a great meal full of rich flavors, but it also a budget friendly mean as well.  I didn't price it out, but I think you could get by making a nice dinner for 4 for under 15-20 dollars.  I love cooking using seasonal veggies, not only is it tasty but it's also cheaper.  Okay so enough talking about how great dinner was, I know get to the recipe, right!!!  Okay well here it is, (by the way, this is a recipe my mother in law gave to me, not sure where she got it from).

Sausage Stuffed Squash (pic taken by me)

Sausage Stuffed Squash (pic taken by ME)

Sausage Stuffed Squash
Time from start to finish apx. 1 hour 30 minutes (about 30 minutes hand on)

What you need (serving size 4) (1/2 squash per serving):
-2 medium sized acorn squash
-1 lb bulk pork sausage
-1 cup chopped celery (optional)
-4 Tbps. chopped onion
-1 cup chopped & peeled tart apples (I used Granny Smith)
-2 tsp. flour
-2 eggs lightly beaten
-1/2 cup sour cream
-1/4 tsp. salt

Here's how you make it:
1. Cut squash in half & remove seeds
2. Place squash (cut side down) in a greased 13x9x2" baking dish (add about 1/2 to 3/4" of water in the bottom of the baking dish)
3. Cover and bake squash at 350 degrees F for 50-60 minutes or until the squash is very tender (my husband likes his squash extra mushy so I normally cook it for 40 minutes)
4. While the squash is in the oven it's time to make the stuffing.  In a medium sized skillet cook the sausage, celery, and onion, (cook until sausage is no longer pink).
5. Add apples and cook for 2 more minutes.
6. Drain fat from sausage mixture.
7. In a bowl combine the flour, eggs and sour cream and mix until smooth, stir into cooked sausage mixture.
8. Now with the cooked squash, remove water from baking dish, turn squash over (so now the cut side is up) & sprinkle squash with salt.
9. Stuff the squash with the sausage mixture, and bake uncovered for 15-20 minutes (until heated through) at 350 degrees F.
10. Serve, eat and enjoy!!!

I hope you like this recipe as much as my family does.

Okay well that's about it for now, thanks for checking in.

Until Next Time...

On My Own

Wow I really am missing my husband.  It's a lot of work taking care of two kids alone.  Now I know what he has been going through while I've been traveling for work, (poor guy).  I really can't complain at all about my kids, both are behaving very well while their Daddy is away for work.  Jean has had her moments, but I don't know of any 2 year old who hasn't had their moments from time to time.  Charlie is doing remarkable well considering he is starting to get some more teeth.  Poor guy was a wreck on Sunday night, since then he has been a real trooper.

With Bill out of town this week I'm haven't had a lot of time to do any scrapbooking, so no new photos of the kids in this issue, (sorry)  I'll make it up next time.  Over the next few weeks a couple of the designers I create layouts for are releasing some new kits, so that means more photos of the kid-o's.  (Although these photos will probably all be from last Halloween since these kits are Fall/Halloween themed and it's just too darn early to go pumpkin picking.)  I promise that I will update this blog with new photos soon.  If it's a good weekend I think I might go and take the kids to the park or something like that (perfect photo op!)

I will have to say I really love the Fall!  I love how the nights get cooler, and I love the colors.  It's such a beautiful time of the year.  I can't wait to take the kids out to pick their pumpkins.  Charlie had to sit it out last year since he was only a couple of months old, but Jean really enjoyed it.  She really loves the little gourds (Bill and I normally have to buy a couple of them for her to take home and play with).  I am also all geeked up to take the kids out "Trick-or-Treating".  I know they are still pretty young, but I think it's so much fun to dress them up.  As I mentioned in my previous post the kids are going as Mickey and Minnie Mouse.  I do have one fear, and that is with Jean.  She's so hung up about Mickey I'm scared she won't want to dress up like Minnie.  Case in point, I took Jean and Charlie out shopping with me and Bill's mom and sister on Saturday.  While at Kohl's Jean took note of a pair of Minnie Mouse PJ's.  My mother-in-law held them up for her (to see if she wanted them), and all Jean could say was "Mickey".  We left the store with a pair of Mickey Mouse pajamas for her (yes they were boy PJs) I only hope Charlie is a Mickey Mouse fan, at least that will be one set of pajamas we can use for both kids.

Until Next Time...

Charlie is 1

It's official Charlie is now 1, (well he's been 1 for about a week now).  He was so adorable eating his first birthday cake.  He was very tentative about digging into his cake, but he seemed to like it.  I finally finished the scrapbook pages I made of his 1st birthday.  What do you think of them?  (Page layouts were created using Sahlin Studio's Football Page kit, and snippets, found at http://www.the-lilypad.com/store/product.php?productid=6303&cat=0&page=1)

With the arrival of Charlie's birthday also brings the arrival of Fall.  With the Fall comes some of my favorite things.  First off Halloween is just around the corner, I already bought my kids their costumes, they are going to Minnie and Mickey Mouse!  They are going to look so cute!  Along with Halloween and trick or treating comes PUMPKINS.  Yet another fun family outing that I am looking forward to.  And finally Fall means comfort food, yummy!!!

On the topic of comfort food, I made my favorite Fall casserole last night for dinner, it was sooooo good!!!!  I got the receipt several years ago,  but I don't remember where I got it from.  If you are looking for a fast and filling family meal for this Fall time season try this Sausage and Broccoli casserole.

Here's what you need:

10 ounces of cooked chopped broccoli (about 2 cups)
1 lb of bulk Italian sausage (I use mild sausage)
5 oz of seasoned salad croutons (about 3 cups)
2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
4 eggs, lightly beaten
1 can (10 3/4 oz) of condensed cream of broccoli soup, undiluted
1-1/3 cups of mild
2.8 oz can of french-fried onions

Cook sausage until meat is no longer pink, (drain fat)
Combine Cooked sausage, cooked broccoli, cheddar cheese and croutons & transfer into a 2 quart greased baking dish.
In a separate bowl combine eggs, soup and milk & pour over sausage mixture.
Bake uncovered in a 375 degree F oven for 25-30 minutes.
Sprinkle with french-fried onions, and bake an additional 3-5 minutes.

Pictures Taken By ME!!! YUMMY

Not only is this a good meal, but it is also a budget friendly meal.  This makes 6-8 servings, and when I buy everything on sale I can make this family friendly meal for less than $2.00 per severing.  Yes that is right less than $2.00 a serving!!!  Now that's a great meal!!!

Keep checking back here for new fall friendly receipts, I think I'm going to make a sausage stuffed acorn squash in the next couple of weeks.

Until Next Time....

Another Summer Memory

Hi to all my friends out there.  Once again I found myself thinking about this past summer and how much fun I had.  Here is a page I did of my son and husband up north in August.  They had so much fun.

I used a free template from Sahlin Studio for her September Challenge, you can find it on her blog site here:

Using Sahlin Studio Page Template (September Challenge)
Using Sahlin Studio "Summer Camp" Page kit

Only one more day before my little man turns 1.  Wow I still can't believe it.  It's hard to believe that just a year ago I was at home preparing for my upcoming scheduled c-section.  So much has changed since my husband and I were blessed with our son, (of course all of the changes were for the better).  Kids grow up too fast, at least I have my pictures to remind me how small they once were.

Summer Memories

Sigh.... Summer is officially over.  With the start of September Fall is just around the corner.  It's now very dark when I wake up in the morning to get ready for work, and it's getting dark by 8:30 in the evening.  Unlike last summer (when I was on bed rest) I had the chance to spend a lot of time outdoors with my children, it was great.  I loved every moment of it.  I have a few favorite moments and was lucky enough to catch them on film (um.... well... digital film that is).  Here are a couple of the summer memories that will last forever.  The first I have scraped before, but it was so precious I had to scrap it for a second time.  It is with Jean and her cousin sharing an ice cream cone.  It was sweet how Jean would take a lick and then hold it out for her cousin to take a lick.  The second layout is of Jean and one of her favorite summertime activities, blowing bubbles.  Just the other day in the check out line at Kroger's she saw a bottle of bubbles and said "bubble" as she pointed in that direction.

So this leads me to my question, do you have a favorite summertime memory?  It doesn't have to be from this summer.  If you have one please feel free to share I'd love to hear it.

Now with the summer over it's time to think of important Fall like things, what am I going to dress my kids as for Halloween and what am I going to bring to Thanksgiving dinner!!!!

For all my scrapbooking friends out there if you like either page layout I created and want to take a closer look at the kits here are the links to the stores.

Both of these page kits are brand new, just released!!!!!  I love them both!!!

Coming up for my family this week is a very special event.  I blogged not too long ago about my son and how I can't believe he is almost 1 year old.  Well that special 1st birthday is on Friday!!!!  We celebrated with my family up north this past weekend, he loved his cake, and opening his gifts.  I have photos and am looking for the right kit to scrap his special birthday.

Labor Day Weekend

No pictures or scrapbook layouts to share with everyone today, sorry.  I've just been really tied up with a lot of work at home, (I'm sure I'm not the only one out there busy).  Hopefully I'll have some new pages to share with everyone after this weekend.  I'll be heading on up to Canada with my wonderful husband and two kids for the long holiday weekend, (yippy).

With the summer drawing to a close I can't help but think back on all the wonderful and fun things I have done with my family.  Jean and I went to the zoo with my friend, her son, my sister and her kids.  My family and I traveled to Maryland for a weeklong vacation to visit family.  I took my kids up to Canada in August for a week.  Oh and there was Charlie and his ear surgery, and a parade in Williamston with my sister and her family, my grandma's 80th surprise party, countless number of other birthday parties, and of course some real R&R time at home with the family.  I'm sure I haven't hit upon everything I've done this summer, I'll have to sit back this weekend and think of all the great things my family and I did.  Oh and of course I'll have to scrapbook them as well; I’ll have to show case these in a “Summer in Review” blog entry soon (or a series of “Summer in Review” entries as I think it might be too much for one blog post to handle).

While I’m on the topic of scrapbooking, to all of my scrapbooking friends out there who like to design page templates check out the newest by Karen Diamond Designs!! These are fabulous!! They are Template Builders, Vol 1 and Vol 2!!!  You can pick these up in her store at Scraps’n Pieces!!!!

Alright well off to get ready for vacation. I’m not ready for summer to be over with yet, and I’m trying to squeeze ever last memory into the Summer of ’12 before the long winter hits.
I’m interested to hear how everyone else’s summer turned out!! Drop me a note and let me know what your favorite summertime memory has been!!!

Until Next Time....

Finally some photos!!!

I've been up to my knees with work, kids, household chores, and of course getting some really cute scrapbook layouts done (in my spare time of course) =)

Last week was a little hectic, but we made it through.  Charlie went in on the 16th for tubes in his ears.  I have posted just below photos from that event.  He did so good, I was so proud of him!!!

2-page layout created using "Dr Feelgood" from Designs by CRK and Studio Cappuccino
While we were at the surgery center waiting for Charlie to have his procedure done it dawned on me that "wow he's almost a year old"!!!!  I did get a little misty eyed thinking of my little baby getting older, and I felt like I needed to take a walk down memory lane, so I decided to take a look at some of his old pictures (especially the ones I haven't scrapbooked yet).  I came across his ultrasound photos, (I have ultrasounds of him since I was only 6 weeks pregnant).  I thought about what to do with these pictures as they were very precious to me.  I was able to watch my son grow before I could hold him in my arms.  I don't know what made me think of a shirt my sister used to wear when she was pregnant, a red shirt with white lettering that said "Under Construction" but it got me thinking.  Karen Diamond Designs (KDD) one of the designers who's CT (creative team) I am on has a kit that was just getting ready to be released, called "Under Construction".  So to preserve these memories I started to work on a scrapbook page for Charlie's album and this is what I came up with.
Page created using "Under Construction" by Karen Diamond Designs
I think the layout is really adorable and very boyish.  Bill likes it, but he's not too sure about the 3D ultrasound picture, he says it freaks him out just a little.  I loved the 3D photo as I was able to see my little boy's face.  I'm getting misty eyed right now thinking about it.

Finally in one of my previous posts I wrote about my vacation up north.  I have been dying to post this layout for a few days now, but alas I had to wait for the kit to become avaliable for sale.  I had so much fun with my kids playing on the beach and in the water and I had an equally fun time preserving this memory in a scrapbook page.  So here it is...

"Day at the Beach" by Adorable Pixels

What do you think??  They loved the beach, and the water!!!!

For my scrapbooking friends out there if you like what you see go check them out (links provided below the photos).

Well my family and I are in for another busy weekend.  We have a party tomorrow night, and another on Sunday afternoon!!!  Not to mention some catching up on chores my husband and I have to do this weekend.

Hope everyone is having a great summer, I know I am!!!!

Back to Reality

Wow what a vacation!!!! I had so much fun playing with my little ones.  I think they really enjoyed the time up north. I took so many pictures of the kids playing on the beach, in the lake and in the woods.  It’s going to take me forever to get them downloaded and sorted out, but it will be well worth it to have captured some priceless memories.  I can’t wait to see how some of the pictures turn out!!!
I know that Jean loved spending time with her older cousins Ella and Katie; in fact all she could talk about when we got home was Ella and Katie.  She had a ton of fun playing with Jonathan as well.  The two of them were quite a pair going “Chipmunk hunting” and collecting rocks!!!  They even held hand when we going on a walk one day, it was absolutely precious.
Charlie enjoyed the time he spent up north as well.  We got him out in the lake, (he was all smiles).  He got to sink his toes in the sand as he watched his sister and cousins play.  He even got to try out his 1st real solid food, graham crackers, yum yum!!!
While on the topic of solid food I was able to get some cooking done last week as well.  I was in charge of dinner for Thursday night and made pulled pork sandwiches using the slow cooker!!!  It was a great meal, quick and easy.  It’s a meal I make at home a lot, it tastes great and normally there are leftovers!  Here’s the recipe in case anyone would like to try it out.
·         1 – 3-4 lb pork butt
·         1 tsp Cumin
·         1 tsp Salt
·         1 tsp Pepper
·         1 tsp Paprika
·         ½ tsp ground red pepper
·         1 large onion thinly sliced
·         1 large green pepper cut into strips
·         1 – Bottle of your fav. BBQ sauce (I use Sweet Baby Ray’s)
·         ½ cup of brown sugar
Lay sliced onions and green pepper on the bottom of the crockpot.  Combine cumin, salt, pepper, paprika, and ground red pepper in small bowl (this is the rub for the pork).  Take mixture and rub it evenly on the pork butt.  Place pork (fat side up) in the crockpot on top of the onions and green peppers.  Combine BBQ sauce and brown sugar and pour over the pork butt.
Cook in the slow cooker on low for 7-8 hours (will easily pull apart when finished)
Serve in hamburger buns with coleslaw!!!
Eat and Enjoy
I also got the chance to do some catching up with my digital scrapbooking!!! I worked on some layouts for my CT position at Simply You Simply Me Designs.  I also found out that I was accepted to be a CT for Karen Diamond Designs (KDD).  Both designers are great and I am looking forward to using their awesome kits to create new layouts for my personal scrapbook album.
Below are just a couple of layouts I completed while on vacation.  I hope you like them.  I was just trying to have some fun with the emblishments and colors.  Let me know what you think.

Using "Hope" Simply You Simply Me Designs

Using "Escape" from Simply You Simply Me Designs & Dancing Princess Designs

I will defiantly add some pages from this vacation when I have them done, hopefully within a week or so.  I wanted to make sure I kept this blog up-to-date and didn’t want to wait too long to add an entry about my awesome vacation.
As for the week ahead, it looks to be busy but manageable!!  Charlie is scheduled for minor surgery on Thursday to have tubes put in his ears; hopefully this will help with his ear infections.  Oh and my husband now has to take our truck to a collision shop to get fixed after he was rear ended coming home from work the other night.  Thank God no one was hurt and our truck while injured wasn’t too bad off.  I guess that’s a huge plus for driving a full size truck, when as small Chrysler 200 rear ends you they normally will take the brunt of the damage, which according to my husband the Chrysler 200 had some major damage and had to be hulled away on a flatbed trailer.  Like I said thank God no one was hurt.
Until next time.

Ready for Vacation

Wow I am so ready for vacation.  Although it has snuck up on me way too quickly.  While I am packed and pretty much ready to go I still don't feel prepared.  Maybe it's because the "Change Oil" light just popped up on my new mini-van and I get to go get the oil changed first thing in the morning before I leave, (I only have 3500 miles on the van, the sales man at the dealership told me it would be at least 5,000 miles before I would need an oil change, what gives????)

While I prepared for my vacation, aside from packing and shopping and more packing (with 2 kids there is a lot to pack), I started to look through some older pictures from the cottage.  It is amazing how much has changed over the past five years.  Over the past 5 years I have gotten married, and had two kids, if that isn't a big change I really don't know what is.  The one thing that has not changed is how relaxing it feels when I go to the cottage.  Even with the kids running around all I have to do is look out the large bay window in the kitchen and see the lake.  It's something about the water, the beach, the view of the light house that makes everything seem peaceful.  The cottage is truly one of the few places I can go to where I am almost completely disconnected from the real world, (no internet).

This is a page I have digitally scraped the other night when I was thinking about my upcoming vacation.  Now I'm really ready to go!!  This page was created using "Escape" a collaboration kit between "Simply You Simply Me Designs" and "Dancing Princess Designs".

Enjoy the page!  I'll update this blog again when I return in a week.  Hope everyone has a great week!!

Until next time...

What a busy week

Wow what a busy week!  It’s going to take me a good long time to catch up.  Last week I had to leave my babies for a few days while I went out of town to work.  I missed them so much.  I wish I can just take them with me when I go.  Although I will have to admit that my out of town work trip was timed perfectly (and no I didn’t have a say in the timing).  I had to go to Kalkaska Michigan the same time my family vacationed in Bellaire Michigan (only about 30 minutes away).  It was hard to go into work knowing my family was going to be out on the lake, but I did have fun after work hanging out with everyone.  I would like to give a special shout out to my aunt who fed me dinner all week, thank you Aunt Geri!
I finally made it home to see my babies on Thursday afternoon.  I picked them up from daycare; Jean was so excited to see me.  All she wanted to do when we got back home was to cuddle with me on the couch, it was so sweet.  Thursday was also a special day for my husband; Bill started his new job at Nissan.  It’s been so busy that we haven’t had a chance to go out and celebrate, (hopefully soon).   Friday seemed to come and go so quickly.
Although a busy day Friday was a great day for me.  I’ve been dabbling with digital scrapbooking since I went back to work after having Charlie.  While I love documenting my kids’ lives through pictures I just never really did have the time (after Jean was born) to work on a lot of paper scrapbooking layouts, that’s when I decided to start working with digital scrapbooking.  I found a great program (MyMemories) and was able to start working on my kids scrapbooks right away, (even with the limited time I have).  ANYWAYS… the designers of the “page kits” I purchase occasionally have CT calls.  CT (creative team) members promote the designers newest page kits by creating layouts with them and posting them on their blogs and in scrapbooking galleries.  Well… I answered a CT Call recently, and honestly I was expecting a polite “thank you for applying, but I’m looking for someone with more experience” type response, but instead I was given the thumbs up!

I am so excited now to be on “Simply You Simply Me Designs” Creative Team.  I love her work and am so excited to share with you my first 2 layouts I created with her newest kit.  The photo’s I used were in both pages are of Jean and Charlie; Charlie when he was born (literally only moments after he was born) and Jean on the beach at St. Joseph Island in Canada (May of 2011).  I thought they were the most fitting photos to use for this very beautiful kit “A new Start”.  The warm colors make it a perfect kit to use if you are looking to add a little vintage to your album, or if you are looking to create a calm serene beach page, or even as I have scraped (below) a page for your new little one.   I’ve had the page kit since Friday afternoon and finished the layouts over the weekend.  I’ve been just itching for the kit to be officially released so I could show you what I have created.  Feel free to leave comments and let me know what you think.  If you like the kit and what to purchase it check out Simply You Simply Me Designs on her website at
http://simplyyousimplyme.com/ or check her out on Facebook at Simply You Simply Me Designs.  I have a couple more layouts I am going to start working on using some of her other kits and will post them here for everyone to see (I’ll try to use more updated photos if I can, but remember I am still playing catch up and I still have some ‘baby’ photos left to scrapbook).
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer as much as I am.  I will be on vacation next week; I am so much looking forward to that.  I hope that I’ll have some time to scrapbook, take photos and of course sleep.  With vacation means I will not be able to post anything to my blog or Facebook.  I will have to take a vacation from the internet as there is no connection at the cottage.  I’ll be sure to add a post when I get back home, and of course I’ll have a ton of pictures to post of the kids!
Until next time…

Maryland Vacation: Petting Zoo (PHOTOS)

Alright finally sat down and did a little digi scrapbooking of my recent vacation with the family to Maryland.  While we were visiting my husbands bother and his family we took the kids to the "Clark's Elioak Farm".  It's a cute little petting zoo with a nursery rhyme theme.  The farm was set up in two parts, one where the animals were and another where a small nursery rhyme themed "village" was set up.

While we were there my husband and I made sure we had plenty of water for the kids as the temperature soared into the mid-90's by the time we left the farm (around 11:30 AM).  We were well prepared for the sun and heat as we also packed hats for the kids and a lot of sunscreen, but there were a few things I was ill prepared for such as:

-My daughter throwing a temper-tantrum every time we would leave one animal pen to go to another one
-My daughter throwing a temper-tantrum when we left the section of the farm with the animals to go to the section of the farm with the nursery rhyme "village"
-My daughter throwing a temper-tantrum  when we would leave one miniature scene from the "village" to go to another one

(Do you see a theme here???)

We survived the  trip to the farm, next to scrap the trip to the aquarium.  Yes another fun exciting adventure with Jean and Charlie and yes more temper-tantrums.

Enjoy the 2-page scrapbook layout I created from our visit to "Clark's Elioak Farm", and note how well behaved my daughter was for the photo's!!!!

My Challenge

I just wanted to take a few minutes this morning to post a scrapbook page I did of my son.  The picture was taken in April of 2012 and I finally had a chance to do something with it.  I am just realizing how fast he is growing up.  Just a couple of months ago he was perfecting the art of rolling over and now I can't keep him still for more then a moment or two.  It is amazing how quickly he is growing up.  It is hard to believe that he is almost a year old, (nearly as hard to believe as my daughter being 2)!  I still remember holding them when they were newborns.  Watching my children grow is one of my favorite things to do, but while I'm looking forward to their futures I am careful not to miss the hear and now.

One of my biggest challenges as a working mother is finding a balance between work and family.  Sometimes I feel almost like a robot when I get home from work at night, just going through the motions of dinner, and bedtime routines.  There are many nights that I wonder if I'll ever get the chance to spend more (fun) time with my kids.  I had ambitions of taking them to the park after dinner, or just going out for a walk, but there never seems to be enough time.  I am scared of missing out on something with my kids because things are hectic; and if I don't do something about it I'm going to miss out on the little moments that makes parenthood so great.

Therefore, I propose a challenge to myself, and anyone who may read this posting, stop and take a moment every day to really look at your children.  Put down your smartphone, I-pod, I-pad and other electronic devices and really look at your children, and while your hands are free give them a hug, give them a kiss, let them know how special they are to you.  I am going to take this challenge up a notch for me and I'm going to challenge myself to spend quality time with my children every night.  I'm not going to set a time limit, as things do come up and sometimes you have less time (or more) to just sit with your child(ren).  I am not going to be concerned with what house work/chores needs to be done once the kids go to bed while they are awake, I'm going to force myself to pull out the stroller and take those walks with my children instead of getting a head start on evening chores.

I will post my progress on my challenge and urge you to make comments on my blogs along the way as to what worked for you and what didn't work.  Sharing stories of how you were able to find/make time for your kids is not only fun but helpful for others (such as myself) who are struggling to do this.

Maryland Vacation

Alright so I'm going to keep going with this blog if it's the last thing I do.  I am bound and determined to keep this thing alive.  It has been a busy busy busy month!!!!  Aside from work, kids, and housework I haven't had much time to do anything else (well other than prepping for a week long vacation to go to Maryland to see my husbands brother and sister-in-law).

The adventure began with the purchase of a new mini-van (yes I am officially a mini-van mom) the Thursday before we left.  After weeks of deliberation my husband and I settled on a Grand Caravan, (so far we are liking the choice we made).  Friday evening after work we packed up the van with all of our stuff (and we had a lot of stuff).  We sat down to watch a few minutes of T.V. before heading to bed to get some rest before the long trip, only moments later we had a phone call from Bill's brother saying they didn't have any power and they didn't think it was going to come back for a few days.

Okay... back-up plan, we were going to have a stay-cation instead.  The next morning we unpacked most of the van and headed over to grandma and grandpas for the day.  Bill and I made a list of activities to do with the kids that week around town starting with a trip to Cabela's, (Sunday's trip). The stay-cation idea turned out to be pretty cool.  I was looking forward to now spending time with the kids and taking them to places around town we haven't been able to go to.  Jean loved Cabela's!!! She watched the fish in the pond and fish tank, and loved the "stuffed" animal displays, (I don't think she realized that the "stuffed" animals were alive at one point in time).  By the time we put the kids to bed Sunday night they were pooped out, and so was my husband and I, but before we could sit down we had a call from Bill's brother again, their power came back on, so it was back to packing the van (for the second time).

Monday morning came and as soon as we could we loaded up the kids and drove away.  The trip out to Maryland was uneventful (as was the trip home).  While there we enjoyed the air conditioned house as the temperatures outside were in the upper 90's with nearly 100% humidity.  Although we did venture out with the kids on a few occasions.  We took the kids to a petting zoo, Jean loved feeding the animals while Charlie watched everything in the comfort of his stroller.  We also took the kids to the Baltimore Aquarium.  That was less enjoyable for Jean, for some reason she didn't seem as interested in the fish as we thought she would.

All in all it was a great trip.  The kids spend time with their cousins and Bill and I were able to sit back and relax a little.  Well that's all for now, (I'll try to post pictures here soon).

Until next time...

My little girl is 2

Wow I can't believe it my little girl is growing up so fast.  She just turned 2 years old this past Saturday.  In a matter of 2 short years she had grown from a newborn baby to a little girl.  While I wish she could stay young forever I know that will not happen, and I look forward to watching her grow as the years go by.

Jean celebrated her birthday by having a Minnie Mouse themed party with her cousins.  She loved her cake (it was like she was just turning 1 again the way she ate it), and she loved her gifts (she even let her older cousins help her open the presents).  It was adorable to watch them all interact, I'm looking forward to when they get together up north this summer, they are going to have so much fun. *I will have to get around to posting my scrapbook pages of the event*

The next big event will be my son turning 1, wow only 4 more months.  Wow how time flies by when your chasing after kids.  It's been a fun ride so far, and I can only imagine it getting better in the further.  I am so lucky to have two beautiful kids and a loving husband.

Welcome to my Blog

Hello.... this is a first for me... a BLOG page. I hope to share with everyone my passion for photography, scrapbooking, cooking, and of course my family.  To start off I have been married for almost 3 years to the man of my dreams (Bill), and am a mother of two wonderful children (Jean and Charlie) both of whom are under the age of two (at least for another month).  Other than balancing a household and a family I also juggle a full time job as an environmental engineer at a local utility company.  In my 'spare time' I enjoy cooking (or experimenting with food), taking a zillion pictures of my kids, and scrapbooking them (I just started to play around with digital scrapbooking).

Please enjoy this blog and let me know what you'd like to see to make it better.  I look forward to sharing with you the experiences from 'A Mom on the Go' and all the joys and challenges that comes with having kids.
